The Doxygen-generated man pages for some new types need to be renamed to
use '::' instead of '_' in the filenames.
libstdc++-v3/ChangeLog:
* scripts/run_doxygen: Rename man pages for nested types.
Doxygen switched from \fC to \fR in its man page output:
https://github.com/doxygen/doxygen/pull/10497
This breaks our script that expects \fC so change the regaulr expression
to work with either style.
libstdc++-v3/ChangeLog:
* scripts/run_doxygen: Adjust sed pattern to match '\fR' for
new man output that Doxygen 1.10 generates.
These scripts both print "generated by $file, do not edit" header but
one of them prints the wrong filename. Use the built-in __file__
attribute to ensure it's correct.

text to the output.
As noted in LWG 4043, "ASCII" is not an alias for any known registered
character encoding, so std::text_encoding("ASCII").mib() == id::other.
Add the alias "ASCII" to the implementation-defined superset of aliases
for that encoding.
libstdc++-v3/ChangeLog:
* include/bits/text_encoding-data.h: Regenerate.
* scripts/gen_text_encoding_data.py: Add extra_aliases dict
containing "ASCII".
* testsuite/std/text_encoding/cons.cc: Check "ascii" is known.

This is another C++26 change, approved in Varna 2023. We require a new
static array of data that is extracted from the IANA Character Sets
database. A new Python script to generate a header from the IANA CSV
file is added.
The text_encoding class is basically just a pointer to an {ID,name} pair
in the static array. The aliases view is also just the same pointer (or
empty), and the view's iterator moves forwards and backwards in the
array while the array elements have the same ID (or to one element
further, for a past-the-end iterator).
Because those iterators refer to a global array that never goes out of
scope, there's no reason they should every produce undefined behaviour
or indeterminate values. They should either have well-defined
behaviour, or abort. The overhead of ensuring those properties is pretty
low, so seems worth it.
This means that an aliases_view iterator should never be able to access
out-of-bounds. A non-value-initialized iterator always points to an
element of the static array even when not dereferenceable (the array has
unreachable entries at the start and end, which means that even a
past-the-end iterator for the last encoding in the array still points to
valid memory). Dereferencing an iterator can always return a valid
array element, or "" for a non-dereferenceable iterator (but doing so
will abort when assertions are enabled). In the language being proposed
for C++26, dereferencing an invalid iterator erroneously returns "".
Attempting to increment/decrement past the last/first element in the
view is erroneously a no-op, so aborts when assertions are enabled, and
doesn't change value otherwise.
Similarly, constructing a std::text_encoding with an invalid id (one
that doesn't have the value of an enumerator) erroneously behaves the
same as constructing with id::unknown, or aborts with assertions
enabled.

This consolidates the three static archives for extensions into one, so
that -lstdc++exp can be used to provide the definitions of all unstable
library features.
The libstdc++_libbacktrace.a archive is now just a "noinst" convenience
library that is only used during the build, not installed. Its contents
are added to libstdc++exp.a, along with the new non-inline definitions
of std::stacktrace symbols.
The libstdc++fs.a archive is still installed, but its contents are
duplicated in libstdc++exp.a now. This means -lstdc++exp can be used
instead of -lstdc++fs. For targets using the GNU linker we should
consider replacing libstdc++fs.a with a linker script that does
INPUT(libstdc++exp.a).
The tests for <experimental/filesystem> could be changed to use
-lstdc++exp instead of -lstdc++fs, which would allow removing
src/filesystem/.libs from the LDFLAGS in scripts/testsuite_flags.in,
but that can be done at a later date.

egrep has been deprecated in favor of grep -E for a long time, and the
next grep release (3.8 or 4.0) will print a warning of egrep is used.
Stop using egrep so we won't see the warning.
grep's from GNU, BSD (including Mac OS X), AIX, BusyBox all support -E
and -F. Solaris grep doesn't support -E, but extract_symvers.in already
contains a special case for Solaris and doxygen documentation generation
is already broken on non-GNU.
libstdc++-v3/ChangeLog:
* scripts/extract_symvers.in: Use grep -E instead of egrep.
* scripts/run_doxygen: Likewise.
The MacOS linker warns about -L arguments that don't exist, which causes

The scripts/make_exports.pl script used for darwin only replaces '*'
wildcards in globs, it doesn't handle '?'. This means the recent changes
to std::__timepunct exports broke darwin.
Rather than use mangled names in the linker script, this adds support
for '?' to the perl script.
This also removes some unnecessary escaping of the replacement strings
in s// substitutions.
libstdc++-v3/ChangeLog:
* scripts/make_exports.pl: Replace '?' with '.' when turning
a glob into a regex.
The man pages generated by Doxygen show internal header files, not the
standard headers that users actually care about. The run_doxygen script
uses the doc/doxygen/stdheader.cc program to address that, but it
doesn't work. It only tries to fix headers with underscores in the
names, which doesn't work for <bits/align.h> or <bits/fsteam.tcc>. It
isn't prepared for the strings like "bits/stl_set\&.h" that are produced
by Doxygen. It doesn't know about many headers that have been added
since it was written. And the run_doxygen script fails to use its output
correctly to modify the man pages. Additionally, run_doxygen doesn't
know about new nested namespaces like std::filesystem and std::ranges.
This change rewrites the stdheader.cc program to do a better job of
finding the right header. The run_doxygen script now uses the just-built
compiler to build stdheader.cc and actually uses its output. And the
script now knows about other nested namespaces.
The stdheader.cc program might be unnecessary if we consistently used
@headername tags in the Doxygen comments, but we don't (and probably
never will).
A problem that remains after this change is that all the free function
defined in namespace std get dumped into a single man page for std(3),
without detailed descriptions. We don't even install that std(3) page,
but remove it before installation. That means only classes are
documented in man pages (including many internal ones that should not be
publicly documented such as _Deque_base and _Tuple_impl).
libstdc++-v3/ChangeLog:
* doc/doxygen/stdheader.cc: Refactor. Use C++23. Add new
headers.
* scripts/run_doxygen: Fix post-processing of #include
directives in man pages. Use new xg++ to compile helper program.
This allows the Doxygen PDF to be built using lualatex instead of
pdflatex, which solves a problem with pdflatex running out of memory
sometimes. This is done by adding a --latex_cmd option to the
run_doxygen script, which then sets the specified command in the
generated user.cfg file used by Doxygen. The makefile is adjusted to
pass --latex_cmd=$(LATEX_CMD) to the script, so using running make with
LATEX_CMD=lualatex will override the default.
Additionally, this does some refactoring of the doc/Makefile.am rules
and the run_doxygen script.
libstdc++-v3/ChangeLog:
* doc/Makefile.am: Simplify doxygen recipes and use --latex_cmd.
* doc/Makefile.in: Regenerate.
* doc/doxygen/user.cfg.in (LATEX_CMD_NAME): Add placeholder
value.
* scripts/run_doxygen (print_usage): Always print to stdout and
do not exit.

(parse_options): Handle --latex_cmd. Do not treat --help the
same as errors. Simplify handling of required arguments.
Add a new check-simd target to the testsuite. The new target creates a
subdirectory, generates the necessary Makefiles, and spawns submakes to
build and run the tests. Running this testsuite with defaults on my
machine takes half of the time the dejagnu testsuite required to only
determine whether to run tests. Since the simd testsuite integrated in
dejagnu increased the time of the whole libstdc++ testsuite by ~100%
this approach is a compromise for speed while not sacrificing coverage
too much. Since the test driver is invoked individually per test
executable from a Makefile, make's jobserver (-j) trivially parallelizes
testing.
Testing different flags and with simulator (or remote execution) is
possible. E.g. `make check-simd DRIVEROPTS=-q
target_list="unix{-m64,-m32}{-march=sandybridge,-march=skylake-avx512}{,-
ffast-math}"`
runs the testsuite 8 times in different subdirectories, using 8
different combinations of compiler flags, only outputs failing tests
(-q), and prints all summaries at the end. It skips most ABI tags by
default unless --run-expensive is passed to DRIVEROPTS or
GCC_TEST_RUN_EXPENSIVE is not empty.
To use a simulator, the CHECK_SIMD_CONFIG variable needs to point to a
shell script which calls `define_target <name> <flags> <simulator>` and
set target_list as needed. E.g.:
case "$target_triplet" in
x86_64-*)
target_list="unix{-march=sandybridge,-march=skylake-avx512}
;;
powerpc64le-*)
define_target power8 "-static -mcpu=power8" "/usr/bin/qemu-ppc64le -cpu
power8"
define_target power9 -mcpu=power9 "$HOME/bin/run_on_gcc135"
target_list="power8 power9{,-ffast-math}"

GCC does not export construction vtable symbols from shared libraries.
The symbols are marked hidden in the objects; for Darwin that makes
them also external (“private_extern” is Darwin’s hidden) which means
that they show up in the list of possible symbols for export from
libstdc++, and there are sufficiently relaxed match conditions that
they reach the exports list. When Darwin’s static linker encounters
them it generates a warning that they cannot be exported. This patch
prunes them from the list of symbols to be considered, thus
eliminating the warnings. No functional Change inended to the library
exports.
