db8d6fc572 libstdc++: Fix std::filesystem errors with -fkeep-inline-functions [PR108636]
With -fkeep-inline-functions there are linker errors when including
<filesystem>. This happens because there are some filesystem::path
constructors defined inline which call non-exported functions defined in
the library. That's usually not a problem, because those constructors
are only called by code that's also inside the library. But when the
header is compiled with -fkeep-inline-functions those inline functions
are emitted even though they aren't called. That then creates an
undefined reference to the other library internsl. The fix is to just
move the private constructors into the library where they are called.
That way they are never even seen by users, and so not compiled even if
-fkeep-inline-functions is used.

On trunk there is a second problem, which is that the new equality
operators for comparing directory iterators with default_sentinel use
the shared_ptr::operator bool() conversion operator. The shared_ptr
specializations used by directory iterators are explicitly instantiated
in the library, but the bool conversion operators are not exported. This
causes linker errors at -O0 or with -fkeep-inline-functions. That just
requires the conversion operators to be exported.

b331bf303b libstdc++: Fix wstring conversions in filesystem::path [PR95048]
In commit r9-7381-g91756c4abc1757 I changed filesystem::path to use
std::codecvt<CharT, char, mbstate_t> for conversions from all wide
strings to UTF-8, instead of using std::codecvt_utf8<CharT>. This was
done because for 16-bit wchar_t, std::codecvt_utf8<wchar_t> only
supports UCS-2 and not UTF-16. The rationale for the change was sound,
but the actual fix was not. It's OK to use std::codecvt for char16_t or
char32_t, because the specializations for those types always use UTF-8 ,
but std::codecvt<wchar_t, char, mbstate_t> uses the current locale's
encodings, and the narrow encoding is probably ASCII and can't support
non-ASCII characters.

The correct fix is to use std::codecvt only for char16_t and char32_t.
For 32-bit wchar_t we could have continued using std::codecvt_utf8
because that uses UTF-32 which is fine, switching to std::codecvt broke
non-Windows targets with 32-bit wchar_t. For 16-bit wchar_t we did need
to change, but should have changed to std::codecvt_utf8_utf16<wchar_t>
instead, as that always uses UTF-16 not UCS-2. I actually noted that in
the commit message for r9-7381-g91756c4abc1757 but didn't use that
option. Oops.

This replaces the unconditional std::codecvt<CharT, char, mbstate_t>
with a type defined via template specialization, so it can vary
depending on the wide character type. The code is also simplified to
remove some of the mess of #ifdef and if-constexpr conditions.

373acac1c8 libstdc++: Make filesystem::path(path&&) always noexcept
Since r12-4065 std::basic_string is always nothrow-move-constructible,
so filesystem::path is too.

That also means that path::_S_convert(T) is noexcept when returning its

will be moved into the return value.

5e3f888389 libstdc++: Fix brainwrong in path::_S_convert(T) [PR102743]
This function was supposed to check whether the parameter's value type
is the same as path::value_type, and therefore needs no conversion.
Instead it checks whether the parameter is the same as its own value
type, which is never true. This means we incorrectly return a string
view for the case where T is path::string_type, instead of just
returning the string itself. The only place that happens is
path::_S_convert_loc for Windows, where we call _S_convert with a
std::wstring rvalue.

This fixes the condition in _S_convert(T).

libstdc++-v3/ChangeLog:

	PR libstdc++/102743
	* include/bits/fs_path.h (path::_S_convert(T)): Fix condition

f874a13ca3 libstdc++: Fix regression in memory use when constructing paths
The changes in r12-4381 were intended to reduce memory usage, but
replacing the __contiguous constant in __string_from_range with the new
__is_contiguous variable template caused a regression. The old code
checked is_pointer_v<decltype(std::__niter_base(__first))> but he new
code just checks is_pointer_v<_InputIterator>. This means that we no
longer recognise basic_string::iterator and vector::iterator as
contiguous, and so return a temporary basic_string instead of a
basic_string_view. This only affects C++17 mode, because the
std::contiguous_iterator concept is used in C++20 which gives the right
answer for __normal_iterator (and more types as well).

The fix is to specialize the new __is_contiguous variable template so it
is true for __normal_iterator<T*, C> specializations. The new partial
specializations are defined for C++20 too, because it should be cheaper
to match the partial specialization than to check whether the
std::contiguous_iterator concept is satisfied.

libstdc++-v3/ChangeLog:

	* include/bits/fs_path.h (__detail::__is_contiguous): Add
	partial specializations for pointers and __normal_iterator.

b83b810ac4 libstdc++: Refactor filesystem::path encoding conversions
Adjust the __detail::__effective_range overloads so they always return a
string or string view using std::char_traits, because we don't care
about the traits of an incoming string.

Use std::contiguous_iterator in the __effective_range(const Source&)
overload, to allow returning a basic_string_view in more cases. For the
non-contiguous casecl in both __effective_range and __string_from_range,
return a std::string instead of std::u8string when the value type of the
range is char8_t. These changes avoid unnecessary basic_string
temporaries.

Also simplify __string_from_range(Iter, Iter) to not need
std::__to_address for the contiguous case.

Combine the _S_convert(string_type) and _S_convert(const T&) overloads
into a single _S_convert(T) function which also avoids the dangling
view problem of PR 102592 (should that recur somehow).

libstdc++-v3/ChangeLog:

	* include/bits/fs_path.h (__detail::__is_contiguous): New
	variable template to identify contiguous iterators.
	(__detail::__unified_char8_t): New alias template to decide when

	(__detail::__effective_range(const Source&)): Use
	__is_contiguous to detect mode cases of contiguous iterators.

	std::u8string.

85b24e32dc libstdc++: Fix dangling string_view in filesystem::path [PR102592]
When creating a path from a pair of non-contiguous iterators we pass the
iterators to _S_convert(Iter, Iter). That function passes the iterators
to __string_from_range to get a contiguous sequence of characters, and
then calls _S_convert(const C*, const C*) to perform the encoding
conversions. If the value type, C, is char8_t, then no conversion is
needed and the _S_convert<char8_t>(const char8_t*, const char8_t*)
specialization casts the pointer to const char* and returns a
std::string_view that refs to the char8_t sequence. However, that
sequence is owned by the std::u8string rvalue returned by
__string_from_range, which goes out of scope when _S_convert(Iter, Iter)
returns. That means the std::string_view is dangling and we get
undefined behaviour when parsing it as a path.

The same problem does not exist for the path members taking a "Source"
argument, because those functions all convert a non-contiguous range
into a basic_string<C> immediately, using __effective_range(__source).
That means that the rvalue string returned by that function is still in
scope for the full expression, so the string_view does not dangle.

The solution for the buggy functions is to do the same thing, and call
__string_from_range immediately, so that the returned rvalue is still in
scope for the lifetime of the string_view returned by _S_convert. To
avoid reintroducing the same problem, remove the _S_convert(Iter, Iter)
overload that calls __string_from_range and returns a dangling view.

libstdc++-v3/ChangeLog:

	PR libstdc++/102592
	* include/bits/fs_path.h (path::path(Iter, Iter, format))
	(path::append(Iter, Iter), path::concat(Iter, Iter)): Call
	__string_from_range directly, instead of two-argument overload
	of _S_convert.
	(path::_S_convert(Iter, Iter)): Remove.

16158c9649 libstdc++: Remove unnecessary uses of <utility>
The <algorithm> header includes <utility>, with a comment referring to
UK-300, a National Body comment on the C++11 draft. That comment
proposed to move std::swap to <utility> and then require <algorithm> to
include <utility>. The comment was rejected, so we do not need to
implement the suggestion. For backwards compatibility with C++03 we do
want <algorithm> to define std::swap, but it does so anyway via
<bits/move.h>. We don't need the whole of <utility> to do that.

A few other headers that need std::swap can include <bits/move.h> to
get it, instead of <utility>.

There are several headers that include <utility> to get std::pair, but

f2ce64b53f libstdc++: Improvements to Doxygen markup

chrono::duration and chrono::time_point were not documented in the

as part of their relevant groups (File System and Filesystem TS), nor
the contents of <exception> or <system_error>. I have made some minor

1e690757d3 libstdc++: Fix filesystem::path comparisons for C++23
In C++23 there is a basic_string_view(Range&&) constructor, which is
constrained to take a range (specifically, a contiguous_range). When the
filesystem::path comparison operators call lhs.compare(rhs) the overload
taking a string_view is considered, which means checking whether path
satisfies the range concept. That satisfaction result changes depending
whether path::iterator is complete, which is ill-formed; no diagnostic
required. To avoid the problem, this change ensures that the overload
resolution is performed in a context where path::iterator is complete
and the range concept is satisfied. (The result of overload resolution
is always that the compare(const path&) overload is the best match, but
we still have to consider the compare(basic_string_view<value_type>) one
to decide if it even participates in overload resolution).

For std::filesystem::path we can't define the comparison operators later
in the file, because they are hidden friends, so a new helper is
introduced that gets defined when everything else is complete.

For std::experimental::filesystem::path we can just move the definitions
of the comparison operators later in the file.

cd3f067b82 libstdc++: Fix filesystem::u8path for mingw targets (PR 95392)
When I refactored filesystem::path string conversions in
r11-587-584d52b088f9fcf78704b504c3f1f07e17c1cded I failed to update the

988b853f9c libstdc++: Simplify filesystem::path SFINAE constraints
This replaces the filesystem::__detail::_Path SFINAE helper with two
separate helpers, _Path and _Path2. This avoids having one helper which
tries to check two different sets of requirements.

The _Path helper now uses variable templates instead of a set of
overloaded functions to detect specializations of basic_string or
basic_string_view.

The __not_<is_void<remove_pointer_t<_Tp1>> check is not necessary in
C++20 because iterator_traits<void*> is now empty. For C++17 replace
that check with a __safe_iterator_traits helper with partial
specializations for void pointers.

Finally, the __is_encoded_char check no longer uses remove_const_t,
which means that iterators with a const value_type will no longer be
accepted as arguments for path creation. Such iterators resulted in
undefined behaviour anyway, so it's still conforming to reject them in
the constraint checks.

Update feature test macro, add deleted operators, update u8path

This patch increments the __cpp_lib_char8_t feature test macro, adds deleted

The implementation mechanism used for u8path differs between the C++17 and

a1e7d33bb9 libstdc++: P1423R3 char8_t remediation (1/4)
Decouple constraints for u8path from path constructors

This patch moves helper classes and functions for std::filesystem::path out of
the class definition to a detail namespace so that they are available to the
implementations of std::filesystem::u8path. Prior to this patch, the SFINAE
constraints for those implementations were specified via delegation to the
overloads of path constructors with a std::locale parameter; it just so
happened that those overloads had the same constraints. As of P1423R3, u8path
and those overloads no longer have the same constraints, so this dependency
must be broken.

This patch also updates the experimental implementation of the filesystem TS
to add SFINAE constraints to its implementations of u8path. These functions
were previously unconstrained and marked with a TODO comment.

This patch does not provide any intentional behavioral changes other than the
added constraints to the experimental filesystem TS implementation of u8path.

Alternatives to this refactoring would have been to make the u8path overloads
friends of class path, or to make the helpers public members. Both of those
approaches struck me as less desirable than this approach, though this
approach does require more code changes and will affect implementation detail
portions of mangled names for path constructors and inline member functions
(mostly function template specializations).

26b1320ee5 PR libstdc++/90281 Fix string conversions for filesystem::path
Fix several bugs in the encoding conversions for filesystem::path that
prevent conversion of Unicode characters outside the Basic Multilingual
Plane, and prevent returning basic_string specializations with
alternative allocator types.

The std::codecvt_utf8 class template is not suitable for UTF-16
conversions because it uses UCS-2 instead. For conversions between UTF-8
and UTF-16 either std::codecvt<C, char, mbstate> or

8281e3b8ea Reduce code instantiated by filesystem::path::_S_convert_loc
Jakub noted in https://gcc.gnu.org/ml/libstdc++/2019-04/msg00140.html
that an unwanted std::wstring::_M_replace_dispatch symbol has started to
be exported from the Fedora shared library. This symbol is triggered by
the instantiation of std::wstring::assign(const char*, const char*) from
std::__str_codecvt_in which is called from path::_S_convert_loc. The
branch that triggers that instantiation can't actually happen in that
case, because codecvt facets will only return noconv when the input and
output types are the same. Guarding the assign call with an if-constexpr
check that the types are the same avoids instantiating template
specializations that will never actually be needed.

	* config/abi/pre/gnu.ver (GLIBCXX_3.4): Replace wildcard that matches
	wstring::_M_replace_dispatch with more specific patterns.
	* include/bits/fs_path.h (path::_S_convert_loc<_InputIterator>):
	Create const std::string to avoid redundant call to _S_convert_loc
	with non-const pointers.
	* include/bits/locale_conv.h (__do_str_codecvt): Use if-constexpr to
	avoid unnecessary basic_string::assign instantiations.
