Tamar Christina	b69c9d41e8	AArch64: Add support for AArch64 EFI (efi--aarch64). This adds support for efi--aarch64 by virtue of adding a new PEI target pei-aarch64-little. This is not a full target and only exists to support EFI at this time. This means that this target does not support relocation processing and is mostly a container format. This format has been added to elf based aarch64 targets such that efi images can be made natively on Linux. However this target is not valid for use with gas but only with objcopy. TRUE : FALSE" unless we had stupidly defined FALSE as something other than 0 or TRUE as something other than 1. The simpler "foo != 0" does just as well. Similarly "(condition == TRUE)" or "(condition == FALSE) can be simplified to "(condition)" and "(!condition)" respectively. I'll note that there is reason to use "integer_expression != 0" when assigning a bfd_boolean rather than the simpler "integer_expression", if you expect the variable to have 0 or 1 value. With -ffunction-sections -fdata-sections, there can be many unused section symbols. Sizes of libstdc++.a on Linux/x86-64 in GCC 11 are With unused section symbols : 39411698 bytes Without unused section symbols: 39227002 bytes The unused section symbols in libstdc++.a occupy more than 180 KB. Add BSF_SECTION_SYM_USED to indicate if a section symbol should be included in the symbol table. The BSF_SECTION_SYM_USED should be set if the section symbol is used for relocation or the section symbol is always included in the symbol table. Add keep_unused_section_symbols to bfd_target to indicate if unused section symbols should be kept. If TARGET_KEEP_UNUSED_SECTION_SYMBOLS is defined as FALSE, unused ection symbols will be removed. Tested on Linux/x86. Other ELF backends need to: 1. Define TARGET_KEEP_UNUSED_SECTION_SYMBOLS to FALSE. 2. Mark used section symbols in assembler backend. 3. Tamar Christina	251dae9107	x86: Add i386 PE big-object support The 64-bit version of binutils got support for the PE COFF BIG OBJ format a couple of years ago. The BIG OBJ format is a slightly different COFF format which extends the size of the number of section field in the header from a uint16_t to a uint32_t and so greatly increases the number of sections allowed. However the 32-bit version of bfd never got support for this. The GHC Haskell compiler generates a great deal of symbols due to it's use of -ffunction-sections and -fdata-sections. This meant that we could not build the 32-bit version of the GHC Compiler for many releases now as binutils didn't have this support. Alan Modra	cb001c0d28	bfd_cleanup for object_p The object_p (and archive_p, core_file_p) functions are not supposed to have any target specific malloc'd memory attached to the bfd on their return. This should be obvious on a failure return, but it's also true for a successful return. The reason is that even though the object_p recognises the file, that particular target may not be used and thus the bfd won't be closed calling close_and_cleanup for the target that allocated the memory. It turns out that the object_p bfd_target* return value isn't needed. In all cases except ld/plugin.c the target is abfd->xvec and with ld/plugin.c the target isn't used. So this patch returns a cleanup function from object_p instead, called in bfd_check_format_matches to tidy the bfd before trying a different target match. The only cleanup that does anything at this stage is the alpha-vms one. bfd/ * targets.c (bfd_cleanup): New typedef. Many places in binutils ought to be using size_t instead (and there are lots of places that use long or unsigned long that really ought to use size_t too). Note that you can't change everything over to size_t: A 32-bit host needs a larger type than size_t to support reading and processing of 64-bit ELF object files. This patch just tidies some of the more obvious uses of bfd_size_type that could be size_t. There no doubt are more lurking in the source. Incidentally, practically all functions used for output of object files can use size_t and don't need to worry about overflow of size expressions. CR16C was added in 2004, and only for ld. gas and binutils support is lacking, and there have been no commits to bfd/elf32-cr16c.c other than warning fixes or global maintainers making changes to all targets. I see no maintainer listed for CR16C, and no commits from anyone at NSC supporting the target. Furthermore, at the time the CR16 support was added in 2007, config.sub was changed upstream to no longer recognise cr16c as a valid cpu. That means the CR16C ld support is only available as a secondary target by configuring with, for example, --enable-targets=all or --enable-targets=cr16c-unknown-elf. Since git commit `7cf7fcc83c` all possible targets (minus binary) are matched in bfd_check_format_matches rather than lower priority targets being excluded once a higher priority target matches. During linking that results in the ld/plugin.c plugin_object_p function being called with the input file xvec set to plugin_vec, which means plugin_get_ir_dummy_bfd doesn't see the real format of the file (pe-i386). It defaults to the output format instead, which happens to be pei-i386, and this wrong choice persists for the dummy bfd. pei-i386 isn't recognised as a valid linker input file. So, omit recognizing a plugin object in bfd_check_format_matches when some other object format matches, and make sure those other object formats are checked first. * format.c (bfd_check_format_matches): Don't match plugin target if another target matches. Andrew Jenner	b8891f8d62	Add support for the C_SKY series of processors. This patch series is a new binutils port for C-SKY processors, including support for both the V1 and V2 processor variants. V1 is derived from the MCore architecture while V2 is substantially different, with mixed 16- and 32-bit instructions, a larger register set, a different (but overlapping) ABI, etc. There is support for bare-metal ELF targets and Linux with both glibc and uClibc. This code is being contributed jointly by C-SKY Microsystems and Mentor Graphics. C-SKY is responsible for the technical content and has proposed Lifang Xia and Yunhai Shang as port maintainers. (Note that C-SKY does have a corporate copyright assignment on file with the FSF.)
