ae41200ba8 libctf, include, binutils, gdb: rename CTF-opening functions
The functions that return ctf_dict_t's given a ctf_archive_t and a name
are very clumsily named.  It sounds like they return *archives*, not
dictionaries, and the names are very long and clunky.  Why do we
have a ctf_arc_open_by_name when it opens a dictionary, not an archive,
and when there is no way to open a dictionary in any other way?  The
answer is purely internal: the function is located in ctf-archive.c,
and everything in there was called ctf_arc_*, and there is another
way to open a dict (by offset in the archive), that is internal to
ctf-archive.c and that nothing else can call.

This is clearly bad naming. The internal organization of the source tree
should not dictate public API names!

So rename things (keeping the old, bad names for compatibility), and
adjust all users.  You now open a dict using ctf_dict_open, and
open it giving ELF sections via ctf_dict_open_sections.

139633c307 libctf, include, binutils, gdb, ld: rename ctf_file_t to ctf_dict_t
The naming of the ctf_file_t type in libctf is a historical curiosity.
Back in the Solaris days, CTF dictionaries were originally generated as
a separate file and then (sometimes) merged into objects: hence the
datatype was named ctf_file_t, and known as a "CTF file".  Nowadays, raw
CTF is essentially never written to a file on its own, and the datatype
changed name to a "CTF dictionary" years ago.  So the term "CTF file"
refers to something that is never a file!  This is at best confusing.

The type has also historically been known as a 'CTF container", which is
even more confusing now that we have CTF archives which are *also* a
sort of container (they contain CTF dictionaries), but which are never
referred to as containers in the source code.

So fix this by completing the renaming, renaming ctf_file_t to
ctf_dict_t throughout, and renaming those few functions that refer to
CTF files by name (keeping compatibility aliases) to refer to dicts
instead.  Old users who still refer to ctf_file_t will see (harmless)
pointer-compatibility warnings at compile time, but the ABI is unchanged
(since C doesn't mangle names, and ctf_file_t was always an opaque type)
and things will still compile fine as long as -Werror is not specified.
All references to CTF containers and CTF files in the source code are
fixed to refer to CTF dicts instead.

Further (smaller) renamings of annoyingly-named functions to come, as
part of the process of souping up queries across whole archives at once
(needed for the function info and data object sections).

932539d7a3 Have partial symbol tables own psymbol vectors
Currently pointers to all partial symbols are stored in two vectors;
and then indices into these vectors are stored in each partial_symtab.

This patch changes this so that each partial symtab instead has
vectors of symbols.  add_psymbol_to_list can now be changed into a
method on partial_symtab as well.

My main motivation for doing this is that I am looking into calling
sort_pst_symbols in the background.  However, I haven't actually
implemented this yet.  (Also this may make it more feasible to also
sort the static psymbols, though I haven't tried that either.)

Also, though, this lets us remove the "current_global_psymbols"
vector, because now the callers can simply refer directly to the
psymtab that they are modifying (formerly this was implicit).

The main drawback of this patch is that it increases the size of
partial symtab.

order to remove the `TYPE_VARARGS` macro.  In this patch, the macro is
changed to use the getter, so all the call sites of the macro that are
used as a setter are changed to use the setter method directly.  The
next patch will remove the macro completely.

8c2e4e0689 gdb: add accessors to struct dynamic_prop
Add setters, to ensure that the kind and value of the property are
always kept in sync (a caller can't forget one or the other).  Add
getters, such that we can assert that when a caller accesses a data bit
of the property, the property is indeed of the corresponding kind.

Note that because of the way `struct dynamic_prop` is allocated
currently, we can't make the `m_kind` and `m_data` fields private.  That
would make the type non-default-constructible, and we would have to call
the constructor when allocating them.  However, I still prefixed them
with `m_` to indicate that they should not be accessed from outside the
class (and also to be able to use the name `kind` for the method).

1776e3e59c Fix --enable-libctf and --disable-static
This fixes test runs and compilation when --disable-libctf,
--disable-static, or --enable-shared are passed.

Changes since v2: Use GCC_ENABLE and fix indentation.  Fix prototype
using 'void'.  Use 'unsupported' and gdb_caching_proc.

Changes since v3: Adapt to upstream changes providing skip_ctf_tests.

5d14b6e5d6 gdb: add field::type / field::set_type
Add the `type` and `set_type` methods on `struct field`, in order to
remoremove the `FIELD_TYPE` macro.  In this patch, the `FIELD_TYPE`
macro is changed to use `field::type`, so all the call sites that are
useused to set the field's type are changed to use `field::set_type`.
The next patch will remove `FIELD_TYPE` completely.

Note that because of the name clash between the existing field named
`type` and the new method, I renamed the field `m_type`.  It is not
private per-se, because we can't make `struct field` a non-POD yet, but
it should be considered private anyway (not accessed outside `struct
field`).

ceacbf6edf gdb: remove TYPE_FIELD macro
Replace all uses of it by type::field.

Note that since type::field returns a reference to the field, some spots
are used to assign the whole field structure.  See ctfread.c, function
attach_fields_to_type, for example.  This is the same as was happening
with the macro, so I don't think it's a problem, but if anybody sees a
really nicer way to do this, now could be a good time to implement it.

Add the `fields` and `set_fields` methods on `struct type`, in order to
remove the `TYPE_FIELDS` macro.  In this patch, the `TYPE_FIELDS` macro
is changed to the `type::fields`, so all the call sites that use it to
set the fields array are changed to use `type::set_fields`.  The next
patch will remove `TYPE_FIELDS` entirely.

`TYPE_NFIELDS` macro is changed to use `type::num_fields`, so all the
call sites that are used to set the number of fields are changed to use
`type::set_num_fields`.  The next patch will remove `TYPE_NFIELDS`
completely.

I think that in the future, we should consider making the interface of
`struct type` better.  For example, right now it's possible for the
number of fields property and the actual number of fields set to be out
of sync.  However, I want to keep the existing behavior in this patch,
just translate from macros to methods.

7813437494 gdb: remove TYPE_CODE macro
Remove TYPE_CODE, changing all the call sites to use type::code
directly.  This is quite a big diff, but this was mostly done using sed
and coccinelle.  A few call sites were done by hand.

67607e24d0 gdb: add type::code / type::set_code
Add the code and set_code methods on code, in order to remove the
TYPE_CODE macro.  In this patch, the TYPE_CODE macro is changed to use
type::code, so all the call sites that are used to set the type code are
changed to use type::set_code.  The next patch will remove TYPE_CODE
completely.

08feed99cb Change get_objfile_arch to a method on objfile
This changes get_objfile_arch to be a new inline method,
objfile::arch.

To my surprise, this function came up while profiling DWARF psymbol
reading.  Making this change improved performance from 1.986 seconds
to 1.869 seconds.  Both measurements were done by taking the mean of
10 runs on a fixed copy of the gdb executable.

128a391fe4 Virtualize "readin" and "compunit_symtab"
This patch removes the "readin" and "compunit_symtab" members from
partial_symtab, replacing them with methods.  Then it introduces a new
"standard_psymtab" class, which restores these members; and changes
the symbol readers to use this intermediate class as the base class of
their partial symtab subclasses.

The reason for this is to make it possible for a symbol reader to
implement an alternate mapping between partial and full symbol tables.
This is important in order to be able to share psymtabs across
objfiles -- whether a psymtab has been "readin" is objfile-dependent,
as are the pointers to the full symbol tables.

8566b89b73 Introduce partial_symtab::expand_psymtab method
The symbol readers generally used two functions to expand a partial
symtab: an outer function (now the "read_symtab" method), and an inner
function, typically named something like "psymtab_to_symtab".

This patch changes this second step to be a method on partial_symtab,
and updates all the callers.  For legacy_psymtab, a new function
pointer member is introduced.

This patch enables a subsequent cleanup.

891813beaa Introduce partial_symtab::read_symtab method
This introduces a new partial_symtab::read_symtab method, and updates
the symbol readers to subclass partial_symtab and implement this
method.  The old read_symtab and read_symtab_private members are
removed.

In practice, only DWARF and CTF are truly updated to take advantage of
the new setup.  The other symbol readers are less actively maintained,
and so this patch also introduces a "legacy_psymtab", which
essentially works the same way as the old partial_symtab.

(Note that, without more knowledge of the interaction between these
symbol readers, fixing this to remove the new (small) overhead is not
trivial, because these readers copy the read_symtab pointer between
partial symtabs.)

The pattern

  objfile->section_offsets[SECT_OFF_TEXT (objfile)]

... appears very often, to get the offset of the text section of an
objfile.  I thought it would be more readable to write it as:

... so I added this method and used it where possible.  I also added
data_section_offset, although it is not used as much.

6c2659886f gdb: add back declarations for _initialize functions
I'd like to enable the -Wmissing-declarations warning.  However, it
warns for every _initialize function, for example:

6a053cb1ff Change section_offsets to a std::vector
This changes section_offsets to be specialization of a std::vector and
updates all the users.  It also removes the ANOFFSET and
SIZEOF_N_SECTION_OFFSETS macros.

Most of this is just a generic sort of cleanup, that reduces the
number of lines of code.  However, a couple spots were doing weird
things.

objfile_relocate did:

-      std::vector<struct section_offsets>
-	new_debug_offsets (SIZEOF_N_SECTION_OFFSETS (debug_objfile->num_sections));

... which seems to greatly over-estimate the number of elements
needed.

This appeared in set_objfile_default_section_offset:

-  std::vector<struct section_offsets> offsets (objf->num_sections,
-					       { { offset } });

... which makes sense due to type safety, but is also actively
confusing given that section_offsets was previously also a kind of
vector type.

Tested on x86-64 Fedora 30.

4d4eaa3005 Make symbol_set_names a member function
This also renames it to make it clearer that this is not a cheap
function (to compute_and_set_names).  Also renames name to m_name
to make the implementation of the renamed function more readable.

Most of the places that access sym->m_name directly were also changed
to call linkage_name () instead, to make it clearer which name they
are accessing.

d3ecddab5f Use a member function to set a symbol's language
This removes symbol_set_language and SYMBOL_SET_LANGUAGE in favor of
a new function general_symbol_info::set_language. symbol and minimal_symbol
already inherit from that struct so this works naturally.

31edb80295 Change some arguments to gdb::string_view instead of name+len
Just some code cleanup. This change has a few benefits:
- Shorter argument list in the functions
- If the caller needs to calculate the string, they no longer
  need to explicitly call strlen
- It is easy to pass std::string to this (done in one place
  currently)

This also updates a couple of places that were passing 0/1 to
a bool parameter.

prefix.  Maybe we should consider renaming the DWARF versions too in
the future to avoid accidental conflicts.

30d1f01849 gdb: CTF support
This patch adds the CTF (Compact Ansi-C Type Format) support in gdb.
Two submissions on which this gdb work depends were posted earlier
in May:

 * On the binutils mailing list - adding libctf which creates, updates,
   reads, and manipulates the CTF data.
 * On the gcc mailing list - expanding gcc to directly emit the CFT data
   with a new command line option -gt.

CTF is a reduced form of debugging information whose main purpose is to
describe the type of C entities such as structures, unions, typedefs and
function arguments at the global scope only. It does not contain debug
information about source lines, location expressions, or local variables.

This patch expands struct elfinfo by adding the .ctf section, which
contains CTF debugging info, and modifies elf_symfile_read() to read it.
If both DWARF and CTF exist in a program, only DWARF will be read. CTF data
will be read only when there is no DWARF. The two-stage symbolic reading
and setting strategy, partial and full, was used.

File ctfread.c contains functions to transform CTF data into gdb's internal
symbol table structures by iterately reading entries from CTF sections
of "data objects", "function info", "variable info", and "data types"
when setting up either partial or full symbol table. If the ELF symbol table
is available, e.g. not stripped, the CTF reader will associate the found
type information with these symbol entries. Due to the proximity between DWARF
and CTF (CTF being a much simplified subset of DWARF), some DWARF implementation
was reused to support CTF.

Test cases ctf-constvars.exp, ctf-cvexpr.exp, ctf-ptype.exp, and ctf-whatis.exp
have been added to verify the correctness of this support.

This patch has missing features and limitations which we will add and
address in the future patches.
