08b8a139c9 Rewrite registry.h 
This rewrites registry.h, removing all the macros and replacing it
with relatively ordinary template classes.  The result is less code
than the previous setup.  It replaces large macros with a relatively
straightforward C++ class, and now manages its own cleanup.

The existing type-safe "key" class is replaced with the equivalent
template class.  This approach ended up requiring relatively few
changes to the users of the registry code in gdb -- code using the key
system just required a small change to the key's declaration.

All existing users of the old C-like API are now converted to use the
type-safe API.  This mostly involved changing explicit deletion
functions to be an operator() in a deleter class.

The old "save/free" two-phase process is removed, and replaced with a
single "free" phase.  No existing code used both phases.

The old "free" callbacks took a parameter for the enclosing container
object.  However, this wasn't truly needed and is removed here as
well.

6cb06a8cda Unify gdb printf functions 
Now that filtered and unfiltered output can be treated identically, we
can unify the printf family of functions.  This is done under the name
"gdb_printf".  Most of this patch was written by script.

9589edb836 gdb/guile: Have gdbscm_safe_source_script return a unique_ptr 
Change gdbscm_safe_source_script to return a
gdb::unique_xmalloc_ptr<char> instead of a raw char*.  Update the
users of this function.

There should be no user visible change after this commit.

880ae75a2b gdb delay guile initialization until gdbscm_finish_initialization 
Like with the previous commit, this commit delays the initialisation
of the guile extension language until gdbscm_finish_initialization.

This is mostly about splitting the existing gdbscm_initialize_*
functions in two, all the calls to register_objfile_data_with_cleanup,
gdbarch_data_register_post_init, etc are moved into new _initialize_*
functions, but everything else is left in the gdbscm_initialize_*
functions.

Then the call to code previously in _initialize_guile is moved into
gdbscm_finish_initialization.

There should be no user visible changes after this commit.

f99b517750 Remove redundant typedefs 
I was inspired by this patch of Simon's:

https://sourceware.org/pipermail/gdb-patches/2020-November/173522.html

... to remove other typedefs that are no longer necessary now that gdb
uses C++.

I didn't remove absolutely every one -- I didn't touch the tdep files.
However, I removed many of them.  In some cases, I removed an existing
different struct tag.

aed57c5371 Remove most uses of ALL_OBJFILES 
This removes most uses of ALL_OBJFILES, replacing them with ranged for
loops.  The remaining uses are all in macros, and will be removed in
subsequent patches.

42a4f53d2b Update copyright year range in all GDB files. 
This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py
script.

Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid
copyright header
(gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc).
As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit
leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header
was sent to gcc-patches first.

a1a31cb8dc Return unique_xmalloc_ptr from gdbscm_safe_eval_string 
This changes gdbscm_safe_eval_string to return a unique_xmalloc_ptr.
This allows for the removal of some cleanups.  It also fixes a
potential latent memory leak in gdbscm_set_backtrace.

9a3c826307 Add some more casts (1/2) 
Note: I needed to split this patch in two, otherwise it's too big for
the mailing list.

This patch adds explicit casts to situations where a void pointer is
assigned to a pointer to the "real" type.  Building in C++ mode requires
those assignments to use an explicit cast.  This includes, for example:

 - callback arguments (cleanups, comparison functions, ...)
 - data attached to some object (objfile, program space, etc) in the form
   of a void pointer
 - "user data" passed to some function

This patch comes from the commit "(mostly) auto-generated patch to insert
casts needed for C++", taken from Pedro's C++ branch.

Only files built on x86 with --enable-targets=all are modified, so the
native files for other arches will need to be dealt with separately.

I built-tested this with --enable-targets=all and reg-tested.  To my
surprise, a test case (selftest.exp) had to be adjusted.

Here's the ChangeLog entry.  Again, this was relatively quick to make
despite the length, thanks to David Malcom's script, although I don't
believe it's very useful information in that particular case...

errors like:
