Added a new argument to find_memory_region_ftype, but did not pass it to
the function in gnu-nat.c.  Fix this by passing memory_tagged as false.

As Luis pointed out, similar bugs may also appear on FreeBSD and NetBSD,
and I have reproduced them on both systems.  This patch fixes them
incidentally.

Tested by rebuilding on GNU/Hurd, FreeBSD/amd64 and NetBSD/amd64.

Now that filtered and unfiltered output can be treated identically, we
can unify the printf family of functions.  This is done under the name
"gdb_printf".  Most of this patch was written by script.

038d8b4635 gdb/hurd: handle inferiors exiting
While testing on GNU/Hurd (i386) I noticed that GDB crashes when an
inferior exits, with this error:

  inferior.c:293: internal-error: inferior* find_inferior_pid(process_stratum_target*, int): Assertion `pid != 0' failed.

The problem appears to be in gnu_nat_target::wait.

We always set inferior_ptid to null_ptid before calling target_wait,
this has been the case since the multi-target changes were made to GDB
in commit:

Unfortunately, the GNU/Hurd target is still relying on the value of
inferior_ptid in the case where an inferior exits - we return the
value of inferior_ptid as the pid of the process that exited.  This
was fine in the single target world, where inferior_ptid identified
the one running inferior, but this is no longer good enough.

Instead, we should return a ptid containing the pid of the process
that exited, as obtained from the wait event, and this is what this
commit does.

I've not run the full testsuite on GNU/Hurd as there appear to be lots
of other issues with this target that makes running the full testsuite
very painful, but I think this looks like a small easy improvement.

41e321a897 Use target_announce_detach in more targets
target_announce_detach was added in commit 0f48b757 ("Factor out
"Detaching from program" message printing").  There, Pedro wrote:

    (For now, I left the couple targets that print this a bit differently
    alone.  Maybe this could be further pulled out into infcmd.c.  If we
    did that, and those targets want to continue printing differently,
    this new function could be converted to a target method.)

It seems to me that the differences aren't very big, and in some cases
other targets handled the output a bit more nicely.  In particular,
some targets will print a different message when exec_file==NULL,
rather than printing the same output with an empty string as
exec_file.

This patch incorporates the nicer output into target_announce_detach,
then changes the remaining ports to use this function.

10a85f29c7 gdb: make use add_setshow_prefix_cmd in gnu-nat.c
In gnu-nat.c we currently implement some set/show prefix commands
"manually", that is, we call add_prefix_cmd, and assign a set and show
function to each prefix command.

These set/show functions print an error indicating that the user
didn't type a complete command.

If we instead switch to using add_setshow_prefix_cmd then we can
delete the set/show functions, GDB provides some default functions,
which give a nice help style summary that lists all of the available
sub-commands, along with a one line summary of what each does.

Though this clearly changes the existing behaviour, I think this
change is acceptable as the new behaviour is more inline with other
set/show prefix commands, and the new behaviour is more informative.

This change will conflict with Tom's change here:

Where Tom changes the set/show functions that I delete.  My suggestion
is that the set/show functions still be deleted even after Tom's
patch (or instead of Tom's patch).

For testing I've build GDB on GNU/Hurd, and manually tested these
functions.  I did a grep over the testsuite, and don't believe the
existing error messages are being checked for in any tests.

d487ae28ce Use filtered output in gnu-nat.c commands
gnu-nat.c has a number of ordinary commands that should use filtered
output.  In a few cases, I changed the output to use gdb_stderr as
well.  I can't compile this file, so this patch is split out as a
"best effort".

7509b82979 gdb: change store_waitstatus to return a target_waitstatus by value
store_waitstatus is basically a translation function between a status
integer and an equivalent target_waitstatus object.  It would make sense
for it to take the integer as a parameter and return the
target_waitstatus by value.  Do that, and rename to
host_status_to_waitstatus.  Users can then do:

  ws = host_status_to_waitstatus (status)

which does the right thing, given the move constructor of
target_waitstatus.

This is because of a confusion between the generic `struct inferior`
variable and the gnu-nat-specific `struct inf` variable.  Fix by

183be22290 gdb, gdbserver: make target_waitstatus safe
I stumbled on a bug caused by the fact that a code path read
target_waitstatus::value::sig (expecting it to contain a gdb_signal
value) while target_waitstatus::kind was TARGET_WAITKIND_FORKED.  This
meant that the active union field was in fact
target_waitstatus::value::related_pid, and contained a ptid.  The read
signal value was therefore garbage, and that caused GDB to crash soon
after.  Or, since that GDB was built with ubsan, this nice error
message:

    /home/simark/src/binutils-gdb/gdb/linux-nat.c:1271:12: runtime error: load of value 2686365, which is not a valid value for type 'gdb_signal'

Despite being a large-ish change, I think it would be nice to make
target_waitstatus safe against that kind of bug.  As already done
elsewhere (e.g. dynamic_prop), validate that the type of value read from
the union matches what is supposed to be the active field.

 - Make the kind and value of target_waitstatus private.
 - Make the kind initialized to TARGET_WAITKIND_IGNORE on
   target_waitstatus construction.  This is what most users appear to do
   explicitly.
 - Add setters, one for each kind.  Each setter takes as a parameter the
   data associated to that kind, if any.  This makes it impossible to
   forget to attach the associated data.
 - Add getters, one for each associated data type.  Each getter
   validates that the data type fetched by the user matches the wait
   status kind.
 - Change "integer" to "exit_status", "related_pid" to "child_ptid",
   just because that's more precise terminology.
 - Fix all users.

That last point is semi-mechanical.  There are a lot of obvious changes,
but some less obvious ones.  For example, it's not possible to set the
kind at some point and the associated data later, as some users did.
But in any case, the intent of the code should not change in this patch.

This was tested on x86-64 Linux (unix, native-gdbserver and
native-extended-gdbserver boards).  It was built-tested on x86-64
FreeBSD, NetBSD, MinGW and macOS.  The rest of the changes to native
files was done as a best effort.  If I forgot any place to update in
these files, it should be easy to fix (unless the change happens to
reveal an actual bug).

5e84b7eefb gdb: remove add_alias_cmd overload that accepts a string
Same idea as previous patch, but for add_alias_cmd.  Remove the overload
that accepts the target command as a string (the target command name),
leaving only the one that takes the cmd_list_element.

2f822da535 gdb: generate the prefix name for prefix commands on demand
Previously, the prefixname field of struct cmd_list_element was manually
set for prefix commands.  This seems verbose and error prone as it
required every single call to functions adding prefix commands to
specify the prefix name while the same information can be easily
generated.

Historically, this was not possible as the prefix field was null for
many commands, but this was fixed in commit
3f4d92ebdf by Philippe Waroquiers, so
we can rely on the prefix field being set when generating the prefix
name.

This commit also fixes a use after free in this scenario:
* A command gets created via Python (using the gdb.Command class).
  The prefix name member is dynamically allocated.
* An alias to the new command is created. The alias's prefixname is set
  to point to the prefixname for the original command with a direct
  assignment.
* A new command with the same name as the Python command is created.
* The object for the original Python command gets freed and its
  prefixname gets freed as well.
* The alias is updated to point to the new command, but its prefixname
  is not updated so it keeps pointing to the freed one.

dca11eb872 hurd: Fix getting VM_MIN/MAX_ADDRESS
gnu-nat.c was getting the inclusion of vm_param.h only by luck. We need
to explicitly include it to be sure to get the definitions of
VM_MIN/MAX_ADDRESS.

dda83cd783 gdb, gdbserver, gdbsupport: fix leading space vs tabs issues
Many spots incorrectly use only spaces for indentation (for example,
there are a lot of spots in ada-lang.c).  I've always found it awkward
when I needed to edit one of these spots: do I keep the original wrong
indentation, or do I fix it?  What if the lines around it are also
wrong, do I fix them too?  I probably don't want to fix them in the same
patch, to avoid adding noise to my patch.

So I propose to fix as much as possible once and for all (hopefully).

One typical counter argument for this is that it makes code archeology
more difficult, because git-blame will show this commit as the last
change for these lines.  My counter counter argument is: when
git-blaming, you often need to do "blame the file at the parent commit"
anyway, to go past some other refactor that touched the line you are
interested in, but is not the change you are looking for.  So you
already need a somewhat efficient way to do this.

Using some interactive tool, rather than plain git-blame, makes this
trivial.  For example, I use "tig blame <file>", where going back past
the commit that changed the currently selected line is one keystroke.
It looks like Magit in Emacs does it too (though I've never used it).
Web viewers of Github and Gitlab do it too.  My point is that it won't
really make archeology more difficult.

The other typical counter argument is that it will cause conflicts with
existing patches.  That's true... but it's a one time cost, and those
are not conflicts that are difficult to resolve.  I have also tried "git
rebase --ignore-whitespace", it seems to work well.  Although that will
re-introduce the faulty indentation, so one needs to take care of fixing
the indentation in the patch after that (which is easy).

b60cea74de Make target_wait options use enum flags
This changes TARGET_WNOHANG to be a member of an enum, rather than a
define, and also adds a DEF_ENUM_FLAGS_TYPE for this type.  Then, it
changes target_wait and the various target wait methods to use this
type rather than "int".

This didn't catch any bugs, but it seems like a decent cleanup
nevertheless.

I did not change deprecated_target_wait_hook, since that's only used
out-of-tree (by Insight), and there didn't seem to be a need.

I can't build some of these targets, so I modified them on a
best-effort basis.  I don't think this patch should go in before the
release branch is made.

6c2659886f gdb: add back declarations for _initialize functions
I'd like to enable the -Wmissing-declarations warning.  However, it
warns for every _initialize function, for example:

The only practical way forward I found is to add back the declarations,
which were removed by this commit:

d9fa87f4f6 Constify get_exec_file
I noticed that get_exec_file could return a "const char *".  This
patch implements this change.

I couldn't build all the code -- but I did build Linux native and a
mingw cross.

Consequently, the NTO code has a hack, where it casts away const.  I
think this can be removed, but that required more work there, and
since I couldn't compile it, I felt it best not to try.

Let me know what you think.

590042fc45 Make first and last lines of 'command help documentation' consistent.
With this patch, the help docs now respect 2 invariants:
  * The first line of a command help is terminated by a '.' character.
  * The last character of a command help is not a newline character.

Note that the changes for the last invariant were done by Tom, as part of :
 [PATCH] Remove trailing newlines from help text
 https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2019-06/msg00050.html
but some occurrences have been re-introduced since then.

Some help docs had to be rephrased/restructured to respect the above
invariants.

Before this patch, print_doc_line was printing the first line
of a command help documentation, but stopping at the first '.'
or ',' character.

This was giving inconsistent results :
  * The first line of command helps was sometimes '.' terminated,
    sometimes not.
  * The first line of command helps was not always designed to be
    readable/understandable/unambiguous when stopping at the first
    '.' or ',' character.

This e.g. created the following inconsistencies/problems:
< catch exception -- Catch Ada exceptions
< catch handlers -- Catch Ada exceptions
< catch syscall -- Catch system calls by their names
< down-silently -- Same as the `down' command
while the new help is:
> catch exception -- Catch Ada exceptions, when raised.
> catch handlers -- Catch Ada exceptions, when handled.
> catch syscall -- Catch system calls by their names, groups and/or numbers.
> down-silently -- Same as the `down' command, but does not print anything.

Also, the command help doc should not be terminated by a newline
character, but this was not respected by all commands.
The cli-option -OPT framework re-introduced some occurences.
So, the -OPT build help framework was changed to not output newlines at the
end of %OPTIONS% replacement.

This patch changes the help documentations to ensure the 2 invariants
given above.

It implied to slightly rephrase or restructure some help docs.

Based on the above invariants, print_doc_line (called by
'apropos' and 'help' commands to print the first line of a command
help) now outputs the full first line of a command help.

This all results in a lot of small changes in the produced help docs.
There are less code changes than changes in the help docs, as a lot
of docs are produced by some code (e.g. the remote packet usage settings).

268a13a5a3 Rename common to gdbsupport
This is the next patch in the ongoing series to move gdbsever to the
top level.

This patch just renames the "common" directory.  The idea is to do
this move in two parts: first rename the directory (this patch), then
move the directory to the top.  This approach makes the patches a bit
more tractable.

I chose the name "gdbsupport" for the directory.  However, as this
patch was largely written by sed, we could pick a new name without too
much difficulty.

Tested by the buildbot.

c29705b71a Fix internal error and improve 'set debug infrun 1'/target wait kind trace
The test  gdb.threads/watchthreads-reorder.exp verifies that the
'set debug infrun 1' debug output does not crash GDB.

Under high load, the test can still cause a GDB internal error (see details
below).

This patch fixes this crash, and improves/factorises some wait kind traces.

Tested on debian/amd64 + run one test with 'set debug infrun 1'.

Changes compared to the first version:
  * Handles the suggestions of Kevin to trace the relevant elements
    of the wait status (this is done by calling target_waitstatus_to_string).
  * Some other changes to factorise wait status tracing.

Note that using target_waitstatus_to_string instead of the 'locally printed'
status kind strings means that debug trace that was using strings such as:
   "EXITED" or "TARGET_WAITKIND_EXITED"
will now use what is printed by target_waitstatus_to_string e.g.
   "exited".

a068643d69 Change pid_to_str to return std::string
Currently the target pid_to_str method returns a const char *, so many
implementations have a static buffer that they update.  This patch
changes these methods to return a std::string instead.  I think this
is cleaner and avoids possible gotchas when calling pid_to_str on
different ptids in a single statement.  (Though no such calls exist
currently.)

This also updates various helper functions, and the gdbarch pid_to_str
methods.

I also made a best effort to fix all the callers, but I can't build
some of the *-nat.c files.

Tested by the buildbot.

c119e04082 Remove excess calls to gdb_flush
A customer noticed some mildly odd MI output, where CLI output was
split into multiple MI strings at unusual boundaries, like this:

    ~"$1 = (b => true"
    ~", p => 0x407260"

This is technically correct according to the MI spec, but still
unusual, in that there's no particular reason for the string to be
split where it is.

I tracked this down to a call to gdb_flush in generic_val_print.
Then, I went through all calls to gdb_flush and removed the ones I
thought were superfluous.  In particular:

* Any call in the value-printing code;
* Likewise the type-printing code (just a single call); and
* Any call that immediately followed a printf that obviously
  ended with a newline, my belief being that gdb's standard output
  streams are line buffered (by inheriting the behavior from stdio)

Regression tested on x86-64 Fedora 29.

I didn't add a new test case.  I tend to think we don't necessarily
want to specify this behavior in the tests.  Let me know what you
think of this.

Fixed with a different (self-contained, more maintainable?) approach compared
to what has been done in commit 7aabaf9d4a
"Create private_thread_info hierarchy", and commit
75cbc781e3 "gdb: For macOS, s/thread_info/struct
thread_info/".  We don't want to change all the GDB code to everywhere use
'class thread_info' or 'struct thread_info' instead of plain 'thread_info'.
