e5dc0d5d04 gdb: move a bunch of quit-related things to event-top.{c,h} 
Move some declarations related to the "quit" machinery from defs.h to
event-top.h.  Most of the definitions associated to these declarations
are in event-top.c.  The exceptions are `quit()` and `maybe_quit()`,
that are defined in utils.c.  For consistency, move these two
definitions to event-top.c.

Include "event-top.h" in many files that use these things.

18d2988e5d gdb, gdbserver, gdbsupport: remove includes of early headers 
Now that defs.h, server.h and common-defs.h are included via the
`-include` option, it is no longer necessary for source files to include
them.  Remove all the inclusions of these files I could find.  Update
the generation scripts where relevant.

1d506c26d9 Update copyright year range in header of all files managed by GDB 
This commit is the result of the following actions:

  - Running gdb/copyright.py to update all of the copyright headers to
    include 2024,

  - Manually updating a few files the copyright.py script told me to
    update, these files had copyright headers embedded within the
    file,

  - Regenerating gdbsupport/Makefile.in to refresh it's copyright
    date,

  - Using grep to find other files that still mentioned 2023.  If
    these files were updated last year from 2022 to 2023 then I've
    updated them this year to 2024.

I'm sure I've probably missed some dates.  Feel free to fix them up as
you spot them.

d69939bded Change serial_send_break and serial_write to throw 
This changes serial_send_break and serial_write to throw exceptions
rather than attempt to set errno and return an error indicator.  This
lets us correctly report failures on Windows.

Both functions had to be converted in a single patch because one
implementation of send_break works via write.

This also introduces remote_serial_send_break to handle error checking
when attempting to send a break.  This was previously ignored.

ad3cf8c64e Change serial_setbaudrate to throw exception 
remote.c has this code:

      if (serial_setbaudrate (rs->remote_desc, baud_rate))
	{

	     top level after closing remote_desc.  Take care to
	     set remote_desc to NULL to avoid closing remote_desc
	     more than once.  */
	  serial_close (rs->remote_desc);
	  rs->remote_desc = NULL;
	  perror_with_name (name);

The perror here cannot be correct, because if serial_setbaudrate did
set errno, it may be obscured by serial_close.

This patch changes serial_setbaudrate to throw an exception instead.

213516ef31 Update copyright year range in header of all files managed by GDB 
This commit is the result of running the gdb/copyright.py script,
which automated the update of the copyright year range for all
source files managed by the GDB project to be updated to include
year 2023.

6cb06a8cda Unify gdb printf functions 
Now that filtered and unfiltered output can be treated identically, we
can unify the printf family of functions.  This is done under the name
"gdb_printf".  Most of this patch was written by script.

dda83cd783 gdb, gdbserver, gdbsupport: fix leading space vs tabs issues 
Many spots incorrectly use only spaces for indentation (for example,
there are a lot of spots in ada-lang.c).  I've always found it awkward
when I needed to edit one of these spots: do I keep the original wrong
indentation, or do I fix it?  What if the lines around it are also
wrong, do I fix them too?  I probably don't want to fix them in the same
patch, to avoid adding noise to my patch.

So I propose to fix as much as possible once and for all (hopefully).

One typical counter argument for this is that it makes code archeology
more difficult, because git-blame will show this commit as the last
change for these lines.  My counter counter argument is: when
git-blaming, you often need to do "blame the file at the parent commit"
anyway, to go past some other refactor that touched the line you are
interested in, but is not the change you are looking for.  So you
already need a somewhat efficient way to do this.

Using some interactive tool, rather than plain git-blame, makes this
trivial.  For example, I use "tig blame <file>", where going back past
the commit that changed the currently selected line is one keystroke.
It looks like Magit in Emacs does it too (though I've never used it).
Web viewers of Github and Gitlab do it too.  My point is that it won't
really make archeology more difficult.

The other typical counter argument is that it will cause conflicts with
existing patches.  That's true... but it's a one time cost, and those
are not conflicts that are difficult to resolve.  I have also tried "git
rebase --ignore-whitespace", it seems to work well.  Although that will
re-introduce the faulty indentation, so one needs to take care of fixing
the indentation in the patch after that (which is easy).

2554f6f564 gdb: give names to event loop file handlers 
Assign names to event loop file handlers.  They will be used in debug
messages when file handlers are invoked.

In GDB, each UI used to get its own unique number, until commit
cbe256847e ("Remove ui::num").  Re-introduce this field, and use it to
make a unique name for the handler.

I'm not too sure what goes on in ser-base.c, all I know is that it's
what is used when debugging remotely.  I've just named the main handler
"serial".  It would be good to have unique names there too.  For instance
when debugging with two different remote connections, we'd ideally want
the handlers to have unique names.  I didn't do it in this patch though.

268a13a5a3 Rename common to gdbsupport 
This is the next patch in the ongoing series to move gdbsever to the
top level.

This patch just renames the "common" directory.  The idea is to do
this move in two parts: first rename the directory (this patch), then
move the directory to the top.  This approach makes the patches a bit
more tractable.

I chose the name "gdbsupport" for the directory.  However, as this
patch was largely written by sed, we could pick a new name without too
much difficulty.

Tested by the buildbot.

42a4f53d2b Update copyright year range in all GDB files. 
This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py
script.

Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid
copyright header
(gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc).
As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit
leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header
was sent to gcc-patches first.

726e13564b Assume termios is available, remove support for termio and sgtty 
This commit garbage collects the termio and sgtty support.

GDB's terminal handling code still has support for the old termio and
sgtty interfaces in addition to termios.  However, I think it's pretty
safe to assume that for a long, long time, Unix-like systems provide
termios.  GNU/Linux, Solaris, Cygwin, AIX, DJGPP, macOS and the BSDs
all have had termios.h for many years.  Looking around the web, I
found discussions about FreeBSD folks trying to get rid of old sgtty.h
a decade ago:

So I think support for termio and sgtty in GDB is just dead code that
is never compiled anywhere and is just getting in the way.  For
example, serial_noflush_set_tty_state and the raw<->cooked concerns
mentioned in inflow.c only exist because of sgtty (see
hardwire_noflush_set_tty_state).

Regtested on GNU/Linux.

Confirmed that I can still build Solaris, DJGPP and AIX GDB and that
the resulting GDBs still include the termios.h-guarded code.
Confirmed mingw-w64 GDB still builds and skips the termios.h-guarded
code.

a75868f50b Fix inferior deadlock with "target remote | CMD" 
Comparing test results between

  --target_board=native-gdbserver
  --target_board=native-stdio-gdbserver

I noticed that gdb.base/bigcore.exp is failing with native-stdio-gdbserver:

  Running src/gdb/testsuite/gdb.base/bigcore.exp ...
  FAIL: gdb.base/bigcore.exp: continue (timeout)
  ...

The problem is that:

  1. When debugging with "target remote | CMD", the inferior's
     stdout/stderr streams are connected to a pipe.

  2. The bigcore.c program prints a lot to the screen before it
     reaches the breakpoint location that the "continue" shown above
     wants to reach.

  3. GDB is not flushing the inferior's output pipe while the inferior
     is running.

  4. The pipe becomes full.

  5. The inferior thus deadlocks.

The bug is #3 above, which is what this commit fixes.  A new test is
added, that specifically exercises this scenario.  The test fails
before the fix, and passes after, and gdb.base/bigcore.exp also starts
passing.

9bcbdca808 PR remote/21188: Fix remote serial timeout 
As Gareth McMullin <gareth@blacksphere.co.nz> reports at
<https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2017-02/msg00560.html>, the
timeout mechanism in ser-unix.c was broken by commit 048094acc
("target remote: Don't rely on immediate_quit (introduce quit
handlers)").

Instead of applying a local fix, and since we now finally always use
interrupt_select [1], let's get rid of hardwire_readchar entirely, and
use ser_base_readchar instead, which has similar timeout handling,
except for the bug.

Smoke tested with:

 $ socat -d -d pty,raw,echo=0 pty,raw,echo=0
 2017/03/14 14:08:13 socat[4994] N PTY is /dev/pts/14
 2017/03/14 14:08:13 socat[4994] N PTY is /dev/pts/15

and then a few continues/ctrl-c's, plus killing gdbserver and socat.

048094accc target remote: Don't rely on immediate_quit (introduce quit handlers) 
remote.c is the last user of immediate_quit.  It's relied on to
immediately break the initial remote connection sync up, if the user
does Ctrl-C, assuming that was because the target isn't responding.
At that stage, since the connection isn't synced yet, disconnecting is
the only safe thing to do.  This commit reworks that, to not rely on
throwing from the SIGINT signal handler.

So, this commit:

- Introduces the concept of a "quit handler".  This is used to
  override what does the QUIT macro do when the quit flag is set.

- Makes the "struct serial" reachar / write code call QUIT in the
  partial read/write loops, so the current quit handler is invoked
  whenever a serial->read_prim / serial->write_prim returns EINTR.

- Makes the "struct serial" reachar / write code call
  interruptible_select instead of gdb_select, so that QUITs are
  detected in a race-free manner.

- Stops remote.c from setting immediate_quit during the initial
  connection.

- Instead, we install a custom quit handler whenever we're calling
  into the serial code.  This custom quit handler knows to immediately
  throw a quit when we're in the initial connection setup, and
  otherwise defer handling the quit/Ctrl-C request to later, when
  we're safely out of a packet command/response sequence.  This also
  is what is now responsible for handling "double Ctrl-C because
  target connection is stuck/wedged."

- remote.c no longer installs a specialized SIGINT handlers, and
  instead re-uses the quit flag.  Since we want to rely on the QUIT
  macro, the SIGINT handler must also set the quit.  And the easiest
  is just to not install custom SIGINT handler in remote.c.  Let the
  standard SIGINT handler do its job of setting the quit flag.
  Centralizing SIGINT handlers seems like a good thing to me, anyway.

75ee59252d Fix inconsistent handling of EINTR in ser-*.c backends 
- If serial->write_prim returns EINTR, ser_bas_write returns it to the
  caller.  This just looks wrong to me -- part of the output may have
  already been sent, and there's no way for the caller to know that,
  and thus no way for a caller to handle a partial write correctly.

- While ser-unix.c:ser_unix_read_prim retries on EINTR,
  ser-tcp.c:net_read_prim does not.

This commit moves EINTR handling to the ser_base_write and
ser_base_readchar level, so all serial backends (at least those that
use it) end up handling EINTR consistently.

... and libiberty's timeval-utils.h timeval_add/timeval_sub, at the
least.

We don't really need the POSIX compliance, so this patch prepares us
to simply not use gnulib's 'struct timeval' replacement once a more
recent gnulib is imported, thus preserving the current behavior, by
adding a sys/time.h wrapper header that undefs gnulib's replacements,
and including that everywhere instead.

The SIZE -> OSIZE change is necessary because newer gnulib's
sys/time.h also includes windows.h/winsock2.h, which defines a
conflicting SIZE symbol.

Cross build-tested mingw-w64 32-bit and 64-bit.
Regtested on x86_64 Fedora 20.

parity to use when communicating over a serial connection, rather

c628b528e0 serial_write: change prototype to take a void-pointer buffer. 
While remote.c works with "char *" buffers most of the time, other
remote targets have binary-ish-er protocols, and choose to use
"unsigned char" throughout, like e.g., remote-mips.c or
remote-m32r-sdi.c.  That results in -Wpointer-sign warnings in those
targets, unless we add casts in calls to serial_write.  Since
serial_write is only concerned about sending raw host bytes out, and
serial_ops->write_prim already works with "void *"/"size_t", a similar
interface to the "write" or "send" system calls, I find it natural to
change serial_write's prototype accordingly, avoiding the need for
casts.

Tested on x86_64 Fedora 17, and also by building x86_64-mingw32
and DJGPP/go32 -hosted gdbs.
